Lyric Theatre presents Engelbert Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel”
Furman University Lyric Theatre will present two performances of Engelbert Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel” Thursday, April 19 and Saturday, April 21 at 8 p.m. in McAlister Auditorium.
The opera is open to the public. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and $15 for students.
Furman Professor of Voice Grant Knox directs an all-student cast in the fairy tale opera “Hansel and Gretel.” Based on the famous Brothers Grimm story and premiering in 1893, it remains an enduring masterpiece of the operatic repertoire.
Accompanying Furman Lyric Theatre is the Furman Symphony Opera Orchestra conducted by Furman Professor of Music Thomas Joiner. The opera ends with a hymn-like ensemble performed by Greenville’s own children’s choir, Chicora Voices.
Furman faculty member and collaborative pianist Dewitt Tipton joins the artistic team. Assisting Knox is Charlie Baldwin (Class of 2019), student conductor and rehearsal pianist. Alan Reed and Laura Jean Reed conduct the Chicora Voices.
