Tapping student voting power

Last updated March 5, 2018

By Furman News

Furman is featured in an article in The New York Times about efforts across the country to increase college student turnout at the polls. The article quoted senior Sulaiman Ahmad, who worked to increase voter turnout among Furman students in 2016. Sulaiman’s efforts included challenging a requirement of the Greenville County Board of Voter Registration and Elections that hindered out-of-state students from voting in the county. As a result, Furman student turnout in 2016 increased significantly.

Ahmad, who will graduate from Furman in 2018, is a politics and international affairs major from Greenville. He is a member of Furman Muslim Student Association and the Riley Institute Advance Team.
