LiveWell Greenville gets boost from Duke Endowment

LiveWell Greenville (LWG) announced it has received the Healthy People Healthy Carolinas grant from the Duke Endowment in partnership with Bon Secours St. Francis. The grant will further LWG’s mission “to make the healthy choice the easy choice by creating and maintaining a community that supports healthy eating and active living.” LWG is a community coalition composed of more than 100 non-profit, government, and private industry partners who work to ensure access to healthy eating and active living opportunities for all Greenville County residents. Furman, in concert with the Department of Health Sciences and the Institute for the Advancement of Community Health (IACH), is one of those partners.

Health Sciences professors Meghan Slining and Shaniece Criss were in attendance at the meeting announcing the grant, and were interviewed by WSPA News 7. Scroll to the seventh video for Slining’s comments and the ninth video for Criss’s interview. Among those speaking at the LWG annual meeting held Sept. 28 at the Greenville Country Club were Criss and Furman Biology professor and executive director of IACH Eli Hestermann.
