Furman alumni Anthony Esquivel (Class of 2003) and Olivia (de Castro) Esquivel (Class of 2006) have opened Copa Indoor Soccer near Berea, a community where 25 percent of the population is Hispanic/Latino. Anthony, a political science major who played for the Paladins from 1999-2002, and served as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator for Furman soccer said,  “… everybody I talked to – coaches, players, parents – we all kind of just knew there was this huge need for an indoor soccer facility.” His wife Olivia, a communications studies and Spanish major who has  a background in health and wellness and outreach from her time working at Greenville Health System, said, “[Soccer is] a language that speaks to all of our communities, just like music and art.” The goal of the indoor soccer park is to bring attention to a long “neglected” community, according to a story that ran in The Greenville News. Said Anthony, “This community is going to feel at home in this facility.”
