Jason Terrell’s Profound Gentlemen wins SEED20 grand prize

At the 6th Annual SEED20 event held March 27, Jason Terrell’s Profound Gentlemen won the Wells Fargo People’s Choice Grand Prize of $20,000. Terrell, a 2012 Furman University Politics and International Affairs and Philosophy graduate, originally co-founded PG to support male black teachers in Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.) schools.
The SEED20 competition is an initiative of Social Venture Partners, a group that identifies 20 socially-minded nonprofit programs in the Charlotte area, and coaches the social entrepreneurs to create three-minute pitches for their initiatives. The top 10 programs battle it out at the SEED20 Onstage event.
With co-founder Mario Jovan Shaw, Profound Gentlemen now has 125 men participating and 10 impact leaders who work in six cities: Charlotte, Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, Memphis and Washington, D.C. The organization is described as one that “builds a cradle-to-career pipeline of male educators of color who provide a profound additional impact on boys of color through social-emotional learning, mentoring, and serving as role models.” Learn more about Terrell’s program and view a short video at this link.
