jeffreinJeffrey Rein, a senior at Ravenwood High School (Nashville, TN) and two-time U-19 Rugby South All-Star, has accepted a rugby scholarship and has committed to attend Furman next Fall.

Rein, son of Paul and Margaret Rein, plays scrum half and began the sport as a sixth grader. He also plays fly-half, kicks for touch and kicks for posts. Rein’s is the current captain of the Ravenwood Raptors, which won Tennessee state championships in 2012 and 2013. Last year, the Raptors were state runner-up.

Rein is a four-time Tennessee state all-star and was selected most valuable player for the South All-star team last year.

“I am really excited to attend Furman,” said Rein, who is interested in pre-med studies. “Furman has excellent academics and rugby provided the extra incentive for me to be a Paladin.”

Rein will be part of Furman’s third scholarship class, the largest and most talented to date. The class also includes his current teammate John Williams, Josh Hager, (Whispering Pines, N.C.) Austin Willis (Atlanta) and Pierce Kirkland (Houston). Last fall, Furman captured the Southern Rugby Conference Title and ended the season ranked 6th in the nation.

“We are thrilled that Rein has decided to join our rugby family,” said Furman Coach John Roberts. “He is very quick, versatile, intuitive and sees the game well. I am sure he will thrive here.”
