According to The Greenville News, Furman theatre arts professor Maegan Azar’s staging of “These Shining Lives” at the Furman Playhouse is a glowing production in more ways than one. The play, by Melanie Marnich, unearths an incident in 1920s Chicago involving a group of female workers who suffered radium poisoning from painting luminous watch dials. The job made their hands shine, permanently. Worse, it resulted in debilitating and deadly illness. The review by Paul Hyde said the “Furman student ensemble relates the story with warmth and sensitivity under Azar’s lyrical direction.”
