Furman Humanities Center Faculty and Student Research Fellowships fund faculty, student, and collaborative faculty-student research projects and creative activities in the humanities and the arts, including but not limited to the following: (co-)authoring essays, conducting archival research, (co-)translating primary texts for publication, hosting public colloquia or seminars, and (collaborating on) public and mediated humanities and arts projects.

Recent student projects in the humanities Noelle Warner presented a TedxFurmanU Talk on “Video Games That Stay With You.”

Students in the Furman Manuscript Club presented their research at a Digital Humanities conference in Mexico City.

Music students performed in the world premiere of “Avian Telemetry,” a project that studies the effect on birds of noise pollution in urban environments.

Odell Scholarship for Declared Humanities Majors

Applications open during the month of February each year. Odell Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to first-year, second-year, and third-year students in light of the following criteria:

  • A declared Humanities major [Africana Studies Humanities track, Art History, Anthropology, Asian Studies, Classics, Communication Studies, English, History, Modern Languages & Literatures, Philosophy, Religion, or Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies];
  • Online submission of the easy-to-complete Odell Scholarship application no later than the end of February each year;
  • Academic performance;
  • Demonstration of financial need.
