Each year, Heller hosts on-campus programs and events in collaboration with many of our agencies. Students have the opportunity to participate in any or all of these events to serve and help better the Greenville community without even stepping foot off campus.

Pita & Paws

Pita & Paws

Pita & Paws is Heller's newest annual event, which came about as a response to demand from the Greenville Humane Society for dog toys. This event is an effort to relieve some work from the dedicated volunteers at the Humane Society. During Pita & Paws, volunteers enjoy catered pita and dinner while cutting and tying old t-shirts to make chew toys for animals in the shelter.

Fall Fest

Fall Fest

The purpose of Fall Fest is to provide a safe environment for children in the surrounding low-income areas to celebrate every kid's favorite candy-filled holiday: Halloween. We bring hundreds of local elementary/middle schoolers to campus every year to enjoy a day of games, makeup, and mentorship. There will be everything from carnival activities, to face-painting, to trick-or-treating in residence halls. Volunteers will either assist in running some of the games or activities or are paired with some of the kids to walk them around each of the stations.

Giving Tree

Giving Tree

The holiday season is a particularly busy time for many of the agencies we volunteer with. The Giving Tree project helps give back to these organizations by providing physical donations for the people they serve. Every year, six Christmas trees go up around campus, and we encourage students and faculty to grab a tag (or many!) off of one of the trees, go out and buy the item listed on the card, and drop it off at the Heller Office. From here, we invite the agencies to campus for a luncheon and present them a big display of gifts that were on their wishlist!

Valentine's Dance

Valentine's Dance

The Valentine's Dance for exceptional adults is one heck of a dance party! This event provides a space for our special needs agencies to spread love and joy by bringing their members into our community for a special Valentines celebration. Volunteers have the chance to hang out, dance, and enjoy some candy with some of our community’s exceptional adults.
