Symptomatic Participant
If a participant has a fever of 100.4˚ or higher and/or chills, difficulty breathing/shortness of breath, body ache, new or persistent cough, loss of taste or smell, and/or nausea, vomiting or diarrhea, the participant should be immediately removed from the camp or conference population.
Non-residential participant, at home
If an individual becomes symptomatic while at home, they should:
- Not come to campus.
- Notify the program coordinator immediately.
- See their medical provider and get tested.
- Notify Summer Programs immediately.
- If testing positive for COVID-19, individual stays home to isolate for 10 days. Return to campus requires approval from Summer Programs.
- If testing negative for COVID-19, individual may not return to campus without proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test. Rapid antigen test results will not be accepted.
Non-residential participant, on campus
- Isolate the individual.
- If individual is a minor (under 18), the individual must be supervised (preferably by an adult vaccinated against COVID-19).
- Contact the individual’s guardian for same-day pick up.
- Notify Summer Programs immediately.
- OPTIONAL: Contact the Earle Student Health Center at 864.522.2000 to schedule a virtual visit between 8:30 a.m.—4:30 p.m. The medical provider will determine the next steps and order a COVID-19 test if appropriate.
- If testing positive for COVID-19, individual stays home to isolate for 10 days. Return to campus requires approval from Summer Programs.
- If testing negative for COVID-19, individual may not return to campus without proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test. Rapid antigen test results will not be accepted.
Residential participant, staff or counselor
- Isolate the individual.
- If individual is a minor (under 18), the individual must be supervised (preferably by an adult vaccinated against COVID-19).
- Contact the Earle Student Health Center at 864.522.2000 to schedule a virtual visit between 8:30 a.m.—4:30 p.m. The medical provider will determine the next steps and order a COVID-19 test if appropriate.
- Notify Summer Programs immediately.
- If individual is a minor (under 18), contact the individual’s guardian to arrange pick up within four hours.
- If individual is 18+, they must isolate until test results are available, usually within 24 hours. Summer Programs has identified designated isolation rooms. Meals must be delivered to the individual being isolated. Communicate any dietary restrictions to Summer Programs.
- If testing positive for COVID-19, individual must return home to isolate for 10 days. Return to campus requires approval from Summer Programs.
- If testing negative for COVID-19, individual may not return to campus without proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test. Rapid antigen test results will not be accepted.
Transportation
- Any individual requiring transport to medical services (e.g. off campus, after hours) must be transported by a vaccinated staff member.
- Notify Summer Programs immediately.
- Each camp/conference is responsible for providing such transportation.
Contact Tracing
- For all confirmed positive cases or symptomatic cases, the program coordinator must notify Summer Programs immediately.
- Summer Programs will contact trace the positive or symptomatic case.
Exposed Participant
- A close contact is defined as exposure within 6 feet for 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour window, within 48 hours prior to either symptom onset or a positive test.
- All members of a pod (including roommates) will be considered as close contacts.
- Any participant who can provide proof of vaccination or proof of a positive COVID-19 test within the previous 90 days does not have to quarantine as long as they are not exhibiting symptoms.
- Confirmed close contact of a positive case must return home.
- Confirmed close contact of a symptomatic case (awaiting test results) must quarantine until test results are confirmed.
Follow-up for Positive Cases
- The program coordinator must notify Summer Programs immediately.
- The program coordinator must provide Summer Programs with the names of participants and/or staff who are close contacts, including the participant’s pod.
- Summer Programs must make arrangements with Bon Appetit for meal delivery.
- Summer Programs must notify Housing & Residence Life to clean the assigned room of the positive case.
