Study Spots on Campus

Hello, my name is Gracie Carroll and I am junior Communication Studies major here at Furman University! Currently, Furman students are in the midst of finals week, and I want to tell you about some of my favorite study spots on campus!

Furman U

JAMES B. DUKE LIBRARY

The Library is one of the more obvious study spots- but it never disappoints! There is plenty of available seating that can cater to the environment you need. For homework with a view, sit at the tables on the outside patio and enjoy the outdoors while getting work done! If you want a more social indoor study

experience, you can sit at the top floor tables alone or with friends. For a quieter location, head downstairs for tables and desks to review and do work in silence. Throughout both floors, there are private study rooms with white boards for you to do group work in or to sit in alone to really focus!

Need a study break? Stop by the library café for coffee, bagels, smoothies, and more!

If you end up working late into the evening and the library’s normal hours come to an end, no need to fear! You can head to the library’s 24 hour study room, filled with comfortable seating and a coffee maker to help keep you going.

TRONE STUDENT CENTER

Need a pick-me-up? Head downstairs to the Barnes and Noble bookstore for more study seating and snacks! There are tables both inside and outside the bookstore.

The Trone student center is perfect for midday study and homework sessions. The Trone Atrium has plenty of long tables, small tables, couches, and desks available to do work or just hang out at. One of my personal favorites spot in Trone is in the Student Org commons, where comfortable chairs with desktops attached overlook the courtyard and have a beautiful view of the Furman lake.

ACADEMIC BUILDINGS

All academic buildings have plenty of seating available to do work anytime, but I use these to finish up assignments between classes! Also great for people watching, I always get to take breaks and chat with friends and professors walking by.
As a communication Studies major, the COM department office provides a calm environment for students to study in! Other departments offer this space to students as well, but the COM office is where you can find me! 🙂

There are tons of other places on our campus to sit and study! You can get work done pretty much anywhere- in your room, in the dining hall, benches outside, etc.! Just make sure you find somewhere that is comfortable for you.

Good luck on your finals!
