Every spring, Furman celebrates Dins Day—a time when the university community comes together to invest in what makes Furman distinct. For the Tocqueville Center, it’s more than a fundraising day. It’s a moment to rally around a shared purpose: forming students who think seriously, serve generously, and lead with integrity in a free society.

This year, we’re inviting friends, alumni, parents, and partners to join us in the Early Donor Challenge—with a goal of 25 early gifts before Dins Day on April 28.

What Your Support Makes Possible

Two of our Tocqueville Fellows, Li Ward and Maddie Moore, recently shared thoughtful reflections on America’s Role in the World, inspired by lectures from Dr. Sergey Radchenko, Wilson E. Schmidt Distinguished Professor at Johns Hopkins University, and Dr. Susan Shirk, Chair of the 21st Century China Center at UC San Diego.

“America does not flinch. We lead.” — Li Ward, Class of 2025
“Every great nation depends on how its people understand freedom.” — Maddie Moore, Class of 2027

Their voices reflect the kind of liberal education rooted in civic responsibility that the Tocqueville Center fosters every day.

What Happens When You Give

Each early gift helps us unlock:

  • A matching gift to double the impact

  • A behind-the-scenes video message from Director Brent Nelsen

  • A Tocqueville Fellow video sharing their experience

  • A new Tocqueville Fellows Blog post

These aren’t just fundraising milestones—they’re windows into the real formation taking place in our students.

🎓 Be One of the First 25 Donors

Whether you’re an alum, a parent, a faculty member, or a friend, your gift helps strengthen the mission of the Tocqueville Center: to advance the study of democracy, leadership, and public life.
