During these past few weeks of October, we have been performing Shakespeare’s As You Like It, adapted by Shaina Taub and Laurie Woolery. It was named one of the New York Times’ best shows of 2017!

Our theatre department has been working with Broadway Green Alliance, a community of artists striving for climate action. Lauren Gaston, Interim Director of Broadway Green Alliance, gave a talk for CLP credit regarding the organization in early October.

As You Like It was just performed at the Susan Shi Garden of the Shi Institute. This production applied reuse and recycle principles espoused by Broadway Green Alliance, so we did not spend a dime on costumes, instead repurposing items from our current stock. Additionally, lighting came from solar or energy-saving devices and we constructed the props with recyclable materials.

In the musical, Orlando, Duke Senior, his daughter Rosalind and niece Celia are forcibly pushed out of their home and rendered refugees. They escape to the Forest of Arden, a dreamy, inclusive space of sanctuary. There, the family groups discovers acceptance and fellowship.

If you would like to see some of our former and upcoming productions, be sure to view our Performances page.

This season we will be offering Eric Overmyer “On the Verge” and Joshua Harmon’s “Admissions,” an award-winning, new comedy.

Come November, we will be hosting the New Works Festival, where student work will be presenting in staged reading style.

It is a large, collaborative effort sure to provide a glimpse of what is to come in the theatre world. Be sure to grab some tickets!
