Are you interested in learning more about research and internship opportunities in our department? Check out some of the experiences of our students this summer.

Dennis Cheeks ’21 partnered with Alan Bryson, our Technical Director, in order to learn and implement new technology into our theatre productions. They sought more information on platforms to increase viewership of products and streaming options for digital productions, also discovering additional technology to merge sound and lighting cues.

Ben Beeker ’22 worked with alumnus Chris White as a production assistant for his film company. White provided guidance through the process of turning a novel into a movie. At the end of the summer, Beeker then presented his creative pitch for the adaption of the film, My Losing Season.

Our student, Anna Bowman ’21, served as an intern for the South Carolina Children’s Theatre, the largest year-round children’s theatre in South Carolina. She was tasked with marketing and teaching responsibilities, which granted her the ability to improve her skills as an educator.

For students leaning towards pursuing research, they can apply for the Research Fellowship in Theatrical Production, which grants up to three students with a small stipend and funds for material costs. This program is designed to provide fellowships for research interests in theatrical design and other creative pursuits of students involved and engaged with Furman play productions. Reach out to a theatre professor to secure a mentor and apply for the fellowship through the Office of Undergraduate Research.
