Furman supports and celebrates first-generation college students from the time they arrive on campus to the time they graduate. We host a number of activities and events throughout the academic year, helping our first-gen students adjust to college life, connecting them with others in the first-gen community, and celebrating their accomplishments.

Welcome to Furman!

"As a first-generation college student, I can relate to both the excitement and trepidation of entering an unfamiliar world. At Furman, we intend for all students to have a transformative college experience. My college experience changed me and it changed the trajectory of my life."

Welcome to Furman!

"As a first-generation student myself, I remember the excitement, joy, worry, and incredible hope I felt as my parents drove me to college for that first move-in day on campus. I don’t know who was more excited or more nervous, but I knew that my life and my family’s life would be forever changed."
