The Rinker Center for Study Away and International Education offers 10 general information sessions about study away opportunities each semester. Additionally, students can request advising appointments from a Study Away Advisor. All students are encouraged to talk to their academic advisors.

Peer Ambassadors are available most days of the week at the entrance of the Center for Engaged Learning. Most Peer Ambassadors have studied abroad previously and can offer general guidance and answer basic questions.

Faculty who are leading programs are great resources. Most offer their own information sessions to promote their upcoming study away programs. Students are encouraged to attend program-specific information sessions when offered.

Those who have studied abroad develop cross-cultural communication skills, the ability to analyze and adjust to local customs and cultural contexts, flexibility, maturity, independence, and adaptability. Studying abroad forces you to deal constructively with cultural differences and situations you would have never faced otherwise. Be sure to market these skills in your professional and educational experiences beyond Furman. Meet with a Career Services advisor for additional tips and advice for including your study away experience in the way you market yourself. If you have studied another language abroad, you are going to be ahead of the game. Furthermore, second language acquisition represents your appreciation of another area of the world and the ability to adapt, an extremely important characteristic.
