During a Greenville County Schools board meeting, members broached the topic of offering a public Montessori school option. While South Carolina has 47 public Montessori programs, the ones in Greenville County exist only in private schools. Ariel Gilreath covered the story for The Greenville News. In her reporting, Gilreath references Montessori studies conducted by the Riley Institute. The article quotes Riley Institute research director Dr. Brooke Culclasure, who said that public programs can have positive results on student outcomes when implemented with full fidelity.
“The research is pretty clear when Montessori is done as Montessori should be done,” Culclasure said.
