COVID-19 Conversations: Rep. Neal Collins on South Carolina’s Response Efforts

The Riley Institute’s Center for Critical Issues “brings the world to Furman University” by hosting a diverse roster of speakers on campus each year. While our events are on hold due to COVID-19, The Riley Institute’s Advance Team students are (virtually) bringing notable past speakers into their own homes for thoughtful conversations about the coronavirus’s impact on many facets of life.

As South Carolina moves toward reopening, legislators like Rep. Neal Collins are weighing concerns on both sides of an intensifying debate about public health and the economy.

Collins, a 2004 Furman graduate who represents District 5, speaks with Advance Team members Riya Misal, Price St. Clair, and Qwameek Bethea about what the state is doing to expand testing and meet the needs of students and teachers as well as communities of color.

In 2018, Collins participated in the Riley Institute’s StraightTalk panel about immigration enforcement in a post-9/11 America on Furman’s campus.
