After spending his entire life in Ohio, Dr. Bounds eagerly made the move down south to Furman. His fascination with mathematics led to obtaining a B.A. in the field from Oberlin College. Following graduation in 2012, Dr. Bounds moved on to Kent State University for his master's degree, focusing his research in ring theory and publishing his first paper in the process. He then proceeded to obtain his Ph.D. from Bowling Green State University, shifting his research to geometric group theory. Dr. Bounds looks forward to incorporating students in his ongoing research in addition to teaching some of the challenging courses in the Furman curriculum.

Dr. Bounds's current research interests lie in geometric group theory, a field in which groups are treated as geometric objects through various algebraic and analytic means. His past projects have featured more general work in both group and ring theory. Dr. Bounds's research in these areas have been published in several distinguished peer-reviewed journals. In addition to his mathematics research, Dr. Bounds has spent several years peer-advising other graduate students through math education programs based at Bowling Green State University designed to help graduate students improve their teaching abilities.
