Furman Engaged 2026 Deep Reflect
The annual class-free Friday that Furman students get to experience serves as a reminder of how learning extends far beyond the classroom. It takes shape through experience, reflection, and shared dialogue. Presenting my poster on my summer internship in New York City as a Client Associate for Private Equity Research allowed me to step back and think critically about what I gained, not just in technical skills, but in perspective and professional growth. Equally meaningful was the opportunity to engage with the work of other students across disciplines. Walking through Timmons before and after my presentation, I was struck by the range of interests, questions, and achievements represented. It made Furman feel like a collection of possible futures unfolding side by side. As a Business Administration and Spanish major, I found myself reflecting on paths I once considered but ultimately did not take. I once dreamed of being a dentist, and seeing peers present work connected to health sciences made that alternate path feel tangible, as if it was a life I could have lived but had chosen not to. Furman Engaged made those divergences feel real and present. In witnessing them, I gained a deeper appreciation for the path I am on and for the weight of the choices that shape who we, as Furman students, become.
