Professor Welchel holds Bachelor's degrees in Modern Languages and Secondary Education from Clemson University.  He taught foreign languages in the public school system for six years.  In 1998, he went back to school, earning his Master of Professional Accountancy degree and securing a position in the tax services division of Ernst & Young LLP.  During his 11 years at Ernst & Young, he obtained his CPA license and served real estate, manufacturing, and private equity clients.  In 2010, he returned to teaching and is now a professor at Greenville Technical College and Furman University.
