Furman University forward Tyrese Hughey ’25 is featured in a patient story published by Arthrex, a global medical device company specializing in product development and medical education in orthopedics. Hughey, who has his sights set on the NBA, suffered two hip labral tears in as many years. The story recounts the diagnosis, surgery and rehab that brought him back to the court.

Furman students visit Arthrex in Florida as part of a three-week May Experience (MayX) course led by The Institute for the Advancement of Community Health. Designed for students who plan on attending health professional schools, the course shows students how Arthrex medical devices are used in operating rooms worldwide and informs possible careers in the industry. The MayX also offers students shadowing opportunities at selected hospitals and clinics overseas.
