In an article published in The Post and Courier, Furman University’s Stephen O’Neill gives historical context to voting behaviors in Upstate South Carolina. O’Neill, a Furman alumnus and professor of history, goes on record about how Greenville and Spartanburg have reinvented themselves in the wake of the now defunct textile industry, which gave way to a surge in manufacturing investment. He also comments on the historical shifts in voter representation in the state. Learn more in Macon Atkinson’s Report for America piece.
