OLLI at Furman wins airtime on local TV stations and other outlets
Several news outlets covered the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Furman University when fall registration opened Aug. 14. More than 130 classes for senior adults are available. From woodcarving, culinary arts, and pickleball to history, politics, and languages, there’s something for every kind of learner. FOX Carolina News ran stories during morning coverage, as did WYFF News 4, UpstateBizSC, Greenville Journal, GVLtoday, and “Access Carolina,” a FOX Carolina program.
Paula Gabbert and Nancy Kennedy joined “Access Carolina” host Margaret Burnquist to highlight a class called “Crafting for Missions.” Gabbert, professor emerita of computer science at Furman, will lead the class that creates “fidget mats” for people with Alzheimer’s, seatbelt cushions for patients undergoing chemo treatments, and fleece blankets for premature babies in neonatal intensive care units.
Kennedy noted the 2,500 OLLI members the organization serves in the Upstate and the affordability of classes. Lifelong learners can sign up for classes up to the start of the fall term, which begins Sept. 8.
