Cookbook details history, recipes of Furman University’s White Oaks

Hospitality and food go hand in hand according to Furman University first gentleman Charles Davis. As Davis explored his role as the University’s inaugural first gentleman, his instincts led him to the kitchen at White Oaks, the residence of Furman presidents and their families. The home was gifted to Furman by Homozel Mickel Daniel 25 years ago, and Davis uses the anniversary as a launching pad to celebrate the home and recipes of Furman presidents, past and present. Davis spoke about the inspiration for In the Kitchen at White Oaks during an interview with The Greenville News’ Lillia Callum-Penso. Said Davis, “I think you could have done just a cookbook, I think you could have done just a book on the house. But thinking about the kitchen being the heart of hospitality, to me it just made a lot of sense to bring them together.”

Davis will sign copies of his book at the University’s grand opening of Furman on Main Tuesday, Nov. 28, 5:30-9 p.m. at M. Judson Booksellers and Storytellers downtown.
