Study Away Through the Years

The first Study Away program in 1969 was led by the English department and involved travel to the British Isles, with a focus on London.

Long before global learning became the norm on college campuses, Furman students were studying and exploring around the world. These images reflect the history of Furman’s Study Away program and the belief that education is enriched by experiencing new places, cultures and ideas firsthand. For generations, students have established their view of the world by visiting parts of it, and Study Away has been a defining part of what it means to learn at Furman.
