Local news covers first-round play at NCAA Tournament, Paladins vs. Huskies
Local news outlets followed the Furman Paladins to Philadelphia for the university’s second appearance in the NCAA Tournament in four years. In Furman’s 82-71 loss on Friday to No. 2 seed UConn Huskies “the Paladins didn’t go down without a fight,” said Chase Justice, WYFF News 4 reporter. Furman communication studies alumna and FOX Carolina News reporter Ella Grogan ’25 spoke with players Ben Vander Wal and Tom House after the game. FOX Carolina also aired a clip of the post-game news conference.
In other coverage, The Greenville News’ Zachary Huber explains why the loss won’t define the Paladins’ season. The News published this photo gallery of the action.
In not so local news, SBNation’s Sam Federman posted a story about the coaching similarities between the Paladins and Huskies that staged “one of the most fascinating schematic games of the NCAA Tournament … with [Furman giving] UConn as good a push as anybody could’ve expected,” Federman wrote. “Furman hung around, punching back every time UConn extended the lead to near double digits, and trailed by just five with five minutes left.”
