Joseph Vaughn Day gains media coverage on WYFF, FOX Carolina

On Friday, Jan. 31, Furman University held its annual celebration of Joseph Vaughn Day, which honors the first African American to enroll at the university. WYFF News 4 and FOX Carolina brought crews to campus to cover the event that included remarks from Beth Pontari, vice president for Academic Affairs and provost; Lillian Brock Flemming ’71 M’75 H’14; Jocelyn Boulware Bruce ’17; assistant director of the Center for Interpersonal Connections; President Elizabeth Davis; Black Alumni Council President Rev. Reggie Garrett ’98; and the presentation of the Idella Goodson Glenn Outstanding Black Alumni Award to Jackie Carson ’00. A call to action was delivered by Hearst Fellow Soukeyna Pitroipa ’25.
