In praise and memory of Dr. Hans Einstein
Dr. Hans Einstein, a 1943 Furman graduate, was an immigrant success story, healer, family man and visionary. A distant relative of famed physicist Albert Einstein, he practiced internal and pulmonary medicine for decades in Bakersfield, Calif., and would become best known as a central figure in a coordinated effort to develop a vaccine designed to prevent valley fever, one of the great medical scourges of the American Southwest. Einstein died Aug. 11 at his home in Bakersfield at the age of 89.
