In the wake of Nikki Haley’s official entry into the 2024 presidential race, NPR political correspondent Danielle Kurtzleben spoke to Furman University’s Teresa Cosby, a professor of politics and international affairs. Cosby addressed what tone Haley might take in the lead up to the Republican primaries. “The battle is between Republicans in the primaries, and so you don’t pay any penalty for playing to that extreme-right ideology that is replicated at the national level in states like Florida and Texas” Cosby said. She also commented on whether Haley’s leadership in the removal of the Confederate flag from the South Carolina State House grounds will win her any points with voters. Cosby’s comments were heard on affiliate NPR stations across the country.
