More than 25 GVL Starts entrepreneurs have been hard at work over the last eight weeks preparing for Demo Day, which took place Thursday, Oct. 19. Five finalists pitched to area investors and members of the audience for the chance to snag $5,000 for their ventures. GVLToday covered the finalists and two winners. Spoiler: winners’ ventures deal with Ph.D.s and adult beverages. Another $5,000 was up for grabs for crowd favorite, which went to QuadSpace.

GVL Starts is a program of The Hill Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Furman University. The institute partners with organizations like City of Greenville, Greenville Local Development Corporation, the South Carolina Department of Commerce, Venture South, South Carolina Research Authority, the Truist Foundation and Hughes Development Corporation to give budding entrepreneurs the tools, connections, mentoring and business know-how to help launch or grow their ventures.
