We offer a diverse range of programs for both active Furman students (undergraduate and graduate) and non-Furman founders in the community.
At The Hill Institute, we believe in nurturing the entrepreneurial and creative spirit within our community, empowering individuals to transform their innovative ideas into real-world ventures.
Furman’s Next Big Idea, with its focus on ideation, serves as a catalyst for students to develop new ideas and problem-based solutions. Meanwhile, the Rinker Paladin Pitch Competition and GVL Starts programs support current and future founders through weekly training, mentorship, and access to potential grant funding.
Our Clemens Angel Analyst Fellowship—one of the few programs in the nation designed specifically for undergraduate students—offers Furman students an incredible opportunity to explore the world of venture capital alongside industry leaders at VentureSouth. We have also launched the Innovation Academy, expanding our reach into high school programming.

“If I had to define what “Furman Advantage” is, I’d say The Paladin Pitch Competition and The Hill Institute are it exactly! I’ve learned so much from the awesome people at The Hill Institute and achieved my dream of being a business owner with their help. Participating in the Paladin Pitch was one of the best things I’ve ever done, and I’m forever grateful for the impact it and the people have had on my life while doing it.”
