During the 2022 mid-term elections, South Carolina ushered in a new superintendent of education, and with that, a new set of education resources from PragerU, a nonprofit media company that promotes conservative views on various political, economic and social issues.

Superintendent Ellen Weaver oversaw the posting of “PragerU Standards Aligned Resources” on the South Carolina Department of Education website. Some educators say the set of short, K-12 social studies videos are biased or contain errors. Furman University’s Paul Thomas, Education professor and former K-12 educator, said the addition of the content by the Department of Education without a formal agreement in place was a “pure political move” when he spoke to The Post and Courier’s Anna B. Mitchell.
