Furman’s hometown of Greenville scores No. 3 spot on CNN Travel list

Readers and editors of CNN Travel have selected 10 must-see cities for 2026, and Furman University’s hometown of Greenville, South Carolina, takes the No. 3 spot. At the center of Greenville’s growth and popularity is its vibrant downtown, sprawling trails, parks and greenspaces and a burgeoning food scene including the city’s first Michelin-starred restaurant.

The 28-mile Swamp Rabbit Trail, which winds through the Furman campus, is featured in the story as having an outsized impact on local businesses in Greenville and nearby Travelers Rest. In downtown Greenville, the construction of Liberty Bridge at Falls Park in the early 2000s set in motion decades of growth and tourism under the leadership of Max Heller and Knox White.
