Furman Theatre shines in American Theatre article

The Furman University Department of Theatre Arts received a shoutout from American Theatre, an online publication of Theatre Communications Group, for its involvement in Kimberly Belflower’s most-produced play, “John Proctor Is the Villain.” Described as “a searingly humane riff” on Aurthur Miller’s “The Crucible,” the play has roots at Furman University, Center College (Kentucky) and Rollins College (Florida), where it developed in workshops in 2018 and 2019 as a commission of Farm Theater’s College Collaboration Project and later saw “a triumphant run” on Broadway.

Nearly a decade since the first workshops, “John Proctor Is the Villain” will notch the No. 1 spot for the most-produced play of the 2026-2027 season.
