Furman Students, Professors Shine in Princeton Review Lists
Furman University’s students are among the friendliest in the country, and its faculty are among the best, according to the Princeton Review’s “Best 390 Colleges” ranking released today.
For the 43rd consecutive year, Furman was included in the Princeton Review’s publication, which is based on surveys of students during the previous academic year. This year, Furman was also included in the unranked list of best universities in the South, a group of schools the publication considers “academically outstanding and well worth consideration in your college search.”

Furman faculty scored high on the Princeton Review list “professors get high marks.” Wade Worthen, professor of biology, shows a species of mayflies to, from left, Ellory Shriver ’28, Becca Ahern ’27, and Will James ’26 during an outing to Little Creek as part of the Insect Diversity May X class on Wednesday, May 15, 2025. Furman was also among the “Top 50 Green Colleges” list of universities that “share superb sustainability practices, a strong foundation in sustainability education and a healthy quality of life for students on campus.” These universities were also not ranked.
Students at Furman ranked 25th in the country based on responses to the prompt “Students here are extremely friendly.”
The faculty ranked 16th in the “professors get high marks” category, based on the statement “Professors are interesting and bring their material to life.”
In addition to being friendly, students described themselves in the survey as being “very motivated and driven to perform well academically.” However, the environment is more supportive than competitive, as students “push each other to be the best people possible.”
One student said, “I transferred to Furman because of the student body. I was completely taken aback at how genuine and kind the people here are.”
About the professors, one student said “the overwhelming majority” are “experts in their field and truly care about helping students succeed.” Another said the professors create environments in which students feel “comfortable yet challenged.” One said, “My professors have changed my life by supporting me and working with me from academic interests to personal crises. They are easily the best part of Furman.”
