On sunny days, the more than 2,000 solar panels located in a field across from Furman University generate as much as 25% of the university’s power needs. On average, accounting for changing weather conditions and cloud cover, they produce 5% of Furman’s power year to year. They also provide a tangible way to teach sustainability and power generation. Laura Bain ’02, associate director of sustainability assessment at The Shi Institute for Sustainable Communities, speaks with local CBS affiliate WSPA 7News about the Furman Solar Farm.
