Furman University’s Francis Kim, an associate professor of finance in the Department of Business and Accounting, writes a commentary in Korea JoongAng Daily. A regular contributor for the publication, Kim compares the current administration to the highs and lows experienced during the first part of the Reagan administration marked by recession, high inflation and elevated interest rates. Despite the rough start for Reagan’s two-term presidency, Kim notes how the economy rebounded in 1983 with a 4 percent growth rate through 1988, a drop in unemployment to 5 percent and a surging stock market.
