Mother Jones magazine turned to Furman University’s Danielle Vinson for comment ahead of the midterm elections. Vinson, a professor of politics and international affairs, told the nonprofit news source that South Carolina voters would be looking for a more independently minded candidate than Darline Graham.

“They would want a candidate who’s willing to stand up to the president and encourage him to pull out of the war with Iran or address the affordability issues more head on,” Vinson said. “And I don’t think they’re seeing any sign whatsoever that Darline Graham would stand up to Donald Trump.”
