Furman University’s Brent Nelsen speaks to a WYFF News 4 reporter about the strike on Venezuela and the seizure of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores on Jan. 3. Nelsen, the Jane Fishburne Hipp Professor of Politics and International Affairs, says the U.S. has led regime changes in the past such as in Panama and Iraq. In those instances, he says, a total shift in government from authoritarian to democratic was in play. This latest move by the Trump administration in Venezuela appears to be more “imperial,” according to Nelsen.

The interview was broadcast during several WYFF segments Jan. 6-7. TV links are temporary and generally expire after 90 days.
