In a continuing WYFF News 4 investigation about historic Brutontown Society Ground Cemetery and a recent cleanup effort that destroyed gravesites and markers, WYFF’s Miya Payton sat down with Furman University’s Brandon Inabinet ’04 to offer historical context. Inabinet, a professor of communication studies and a key figure in the university’s Seeking Abraham Project, spoke about Abraham Sims, a former enslaved man of Furman’s first president, James C. Furman. Sims is among what’s believed to be hundreds of slaves and veterans buried at the site.
