Baker ’14 talks sustainability in TOWN Magazine
Joy Owens Baker ’14, Furman University sustainability science alumna and staffer with The Shi Institute for Sustainable Communities, was featured in a TOWN Magazine article by Evan Peter Smith. Baker, associate director of sustainability programs, dispels some common misconceptions about sustainability and communicates how The Shi Institute is tackling problems in the region. Among other roles, Baker leads the Sustainability Fellows program at The Shi Institute where students are involved in heat-mapping research, conservation efforts at Lake Conestee, education programs at Greenville Zoo, urban planning and more. She also coordinates a home weatherization program, empowering homeowners to become more energy efficient and economically independent.
