Jane Stern, five-time winner of the James Beard Award, is author of more than 40 books on American cuisine and other topics. Leaving her home in Connecticut and putting roots down in Greenville, South Carolina, she also teaches a food writing class as an adjunct for the Department of English at Furman University. She and her now former husband, Michael Stern, met at Yale and spent their years after college traveling the U.S. looking for the best regional food. “Roadfood: An Eater’s Guide to More Than 1,000 of the Best Local Hot Spots and Hidden Gems Across America,” is now in its 10th edition and launched a movement that spawned a popular website and public television series.

Lillia Callum-Penso captures Stern’s wit, self-effacing charm and passion for all things food in an article appearing in The Post and Courier – Greenville. Furman’s Melinda Menzer, chair of the English department, is also quoted.
