Anthony Morgan ’26 makes case for voting in primary elections
Anthony Morgan, a Furman University senior, makes a case for casting a vote in primary elections in an opinion piece he wrote as part of the annual StraightTalk student op-ed contest organized by The Riley Institute at Furman. The article, “Saving the American dream requires active participation,” appears in Greenville Journal.
Despite a steady increase in wages over the last two decades, the added income hasn’t kept pace with skyrocketing home prices, writes Morgan, a communication studies and politics and international affairs double major. He also addresses lagging teacher pay, which makes it difficult to attract and retain quality educators. Citing low Greenville County voter turnout in 2024, Morgan urges readers to “go to the polls and vote for candidates who will support teachers, raise wages and work to lower the cost of consumer goods. Maybe then the American dream won’t seem so distant.”
