In an interview with India news outlet CNBC TV18, Furman University’s Brent Nelsen discussed Israel’s parliamentary election and its potential implications for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In the country’s first national election since the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attacks and the ensuing war, Nelsen said Israelis face an important decision. He added that a defeat for Netanyahu could accelerate the prime minister’s corruption trial and clear the way for an independent inquiry into the security failures surrounding the Hamas attacks.

Nelsen, the Jane Fishburne Hipp Professor of Politics and International Affairs at Furman, is a frequent contributor to local, national and international news sources.
