FOX Carolina News turned to Furman University’s Geniece Crawford Mondé for her insights about the race for Spartanburg County Sheriff. Chuck Wright held the position for 20 years before he resigned earlier this year citing medical concerns and amid allegations of improper credit card use and an ethics investigation.

Ahead of the republican primary runoff for sheriff on Aug. 19, Mondé, the Herman N. Hipp Associate Professor of Sociology and law enforcement expert, said winning back the trust of the community will be the most important task the new sheriff will face. “Without trust, the investigative resources, information from the community members that law enforcement rely on to solve their investigations, is going to be really, really difficult to access because members of the community won’t be forthcoming with information,” she said.
