Black History Month at Furman features events for students, faculty and staff
Several organizations have events planned for Black History Month at Furman.
Various student groups and offices at Furman University have come together to develop Black History Month programming for our community. The month’s celebration kicked off on Jan. 31 with the university’s Joseph Vaughn Day. They continued on Saturday at the Women’s Basketball Game and at the Legacy Celebration hosted by the Black Alumni Council.
There are many more events happening on campus this month. A few of them are:
- Feb. 3, “We Are not OK,” Promoting mental health in the workplace, 12:30-1:30 p.m., Trustees Dining Room in the Dining Hall, Sponsored by the Black Faculty and Staff Association
- Feb. 12, NAACP Founder’s Day Banquet, 6-7 p.m., Chapel Garden Room, Sponsored by the Furman Chapter of the NAACP
- Feb. 13, Black Politics (CLP), 5-6:30 p.m., Trustees Dining Room, Sponsored by the Center for Interpersonal Connections and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
- Feb. 21, Get Aktive, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Playhouse Studio, Sponsored by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
- Feb. 27, FUGE Black History Month Concert, 6 p.m., Daniel Recital Hall, sponsored by FUGE, the Furman University Gospel Ensemble
