What’s better than the classic Christmas tune “Jingle Bells”? How about 60-80 tubas performing it in unison? WYFF News 4’s Gabrielle Komorowski caught up with Furman University’s Mark Britt to explore the history of the TUBACHRISTMAS tradition, which began in New York City in 1974. Today TUBACHRISTMAS celebrations take place in hundreds of cities all over the country. Britt, a professor of low brass and music education, said the event draws performers of all ages and skill levels from 7th grade and older, with professional musicians also joining the fun. The 36th TUBACHRISTMAS concert in Greenville, South Carolina, happens downtown at NOMA Square Saturday, Dec. 21, at 12:15 p.m. It’s free and the public is invited to attend.
