SC Democrats leverage Biden-Harris ticket to help boost down-ballot turnout
Furman University’s Danielle Vinson ’89, a professor in the Department of Politics and International Affairs, spoke to reporters for The State about Joe Biden’s pick for his vice presidential running mate, Kamala Harris. Vinson explains why Harris could elevate voter participation among non-whites. “She’s very much in the mainstream liberal part of the party but not the far left,” she said. Notoriety among South Carolina voters is another draw, Vinson said. “Her appearances in South Carolina went quite well. She brought a lot of energy and enthusiasm. Folks who are likely to vote Democratic have that positive image of her.” Vinson also comments on why Harris may appeal to younger voters.
