Steering students toward success

As a member of the Furman College Advising Corps (CAC), Furman alumna Katie Foster ’17 works alongside guidance counselors as a full-time college adviser, making sure students at Lewisville High School in South Carolina have what they need to plan for college access and success. All 350 of them. In a story published on the Duke Endowment website, a student describes the impact of CAC, which has a cohort of  seven Furman advisers working in schools across Chester and Lancaster counties. “I don’t think I could have done this without Ms. Foster,” said the student. “I’m the first person in my family to go to college and I’ve been coming in all the time asking questions. Applying is exciting, but it can be really confusing.”

In 2017, Furman became the first South Carolina school to partner with the Corps, receiving anchor funding from the J. Marion Sims Foundation and the Duke Endowment.
